Ninewells Hospital, situated in Dundee, is one of the largest hospitals in the UK. The hospital provides medical facilities ranging from maternity wards to A&E and includes large research facilities used in conjunction with Dundee University. RD Energy Solutions were tasked with providing Energy Performance Certificates for all the building with public access within the hospital. This required the production of 16 EPCs covering a total floor area of 147,000m2. The large sizes of the buildings and complex mechanical systems in all of them, coupled with a tight timescale, proved a challenge but we successfully surveyed the site and produced the EPCs over a two month period.
This involved extensive and detailed surveying; examining and ascertaining HVAC and DHW systems; Liaising with hospital staff to gain access to sensitive areas; modelling the buildings in 3D; producing the EPC; and communicating with the clients and obtaining feedback on the results.
