RD Energy Solutions/Case Studies/ Commercial & Business

Whyte and MacKay

Whyte and MacKay have distilled spirits in Scotland since 1844, producing leading brands for a global market. Increasing energy prices and the recent introduction of the European Union Emissions Trading scheme (EU ETS) in January 2005 have encouraged the company to consider alternative sources of energy for the Invergordon grain distillery. As such, Whyte and MacKay commissioned RD Energy Solutions to assess their opportunities to reduce energy overheads and carbon emissions through on-site renewable energy generation with their own natural resources.

We carried out a preliminary renewable energy feasibility survey into the company’s opportunities for a large-scale wind turbine, a biomass combustion plant and an anaerobic digestion plant with combined heat and power gas engine.

Whyte and MacKay are keen to take the project forward and are at present visiting manufacturers and testing equipment.
